テー マ：源氏物語の「色」と「愛」 Love and Lust in The Tale of Genji Kenneth L. Richard
授業概要 「源氏物語」の最大のテーマ「色」と「愛」を取り上げる。集中的に「源氏物語」のテキスト（原文と口語訳―たまに英訳）を集中して読みながら、男女関係（世の中）及び同性関係の色好む傾向と愛する傾向を分析する。批評態度を育成することを目的とする。つまり、第一に源氏物語はフイクション（虚構）であり、真実ではないということ（小説はなんであるかを解くこと）、第二に「源氏物語」の世界文学としての重要性をはっきりさせること（世界の視野から見る「源氏物語」はロマンスであるか、反ロマンスであるかを解くこと）。最後に「源氏物語」のフェミニズム（feminism）を論じる。 This course aims to make clear the main theme of ‘lust’ and ‘love’ in The Tale of Genji through selected readings of portions of the original text, versions in modern Japanese, and with support from translations in English. Students will be required to take a critical stance toward the meaning of fiction, and toward the meaning of The Tale of Genji in the context of world literature. Is this great work a ‘romance’?
