A MIRROR HELD TO THE FLOWER

Musical tuning is set centrally in the body.

If one takes the pitch from the musical tuning

of the wind instrument, sets it within the central locus

of the body, then closes ones eyes, then draws the breath

to the center of the body, and only then allows the voice

to come forth, then the leading edge of the voice

comes from the within the musical tuning which has been

set in the body (that is, not from an external source).

If one takes only the musical tuning (from the external source),

then proceeds to voice production without setting the tuning

in the center of the body, the leading edge of the voice

will not be in synchronization with the musical tuning

and all is lost. Musical tuning must be contained within

the center of the body and then produced as voice.

For this reason, I give the rule of First the Tuning,

Second the Centering, and Third the Voice.
